A new agreement has been reached between Schumer and Manchin that would bring back the ability for automakers to offer their customers federal tax credits for the purchase of electric vehicles. The new deal would also introduce another tax credit. “Under current regulations, buyers of electric vehicles get a $7,500 tax credit when purchasing an electric vehicle, but that full credit is limited to the first 200,000 electric vehicles sold by any given manufacturer,” CNN explains....

Analysts at BusinessFinancing wanted to find out more about beer preferences around the world. More specifically, they were curious about which beer was the favorite in the world and which countries have the same taste in beer. To find each country’s favorite beer brand, BusinessFinancing gathered data in March 2022, looking at consumer brand lists from business publications, industry journals, and reports. Then, they took the list and used Google Ads API to find the search volume data for each brand in nearly every country....

“The dramatic epidemic of asthma and allergies in the West in the last 50 years is still largely unexplained,” coauthor on the study Annabelle Bedard of Queen Mary University of London, told CNN. “One potential culprit is a change in diet.” The study, published in European Respiratory Journal, analyzed data from 8,956 mother-child pairs obtained from a large dataset on children born in the 1990s. When Bedard and her team compared the 20 percent of mothers with the highest sugar intake to the 20 percent of mothers with the lowest sugar intake, they found that kids born to sugar-obsessed moms were 38 percent more likely to test positive for any allergen, 73 percent more likely to test positive for two or more allergens, and 101 percent more likely to have asthma along with at least one skin allergy....

The National Assessment of Educational Progress, as it’s formally known, includes a nationally representative sample of public and private school students from across the country. The most recent results of the NAEP’s long-term assessments, released Thursday, compared scores for nine- and 13-year-olds who took the test during the 2019-20 school year (pre-school closures) to students the same age who did so in the early ’70s and in 2012. “This was the first time in the almost 50-year history of the long-term trend assessments that we observed declines among 13-year-olds,” said National Center for Educational Statistics Commissioner Peggy G....

In the just-released trailer, the idea of a large red dog roughly the size of four horses mushed together is demonstrated as correctly horrifying parents, but totally wonderful for kids. As we all know, kids love unlovable monsters in ways parents do not. But, to be fair, this is the elephant (or the red dog) in the room with like half of all children’s entertainment anyway. After 12 years, Playmates Toys is, once again, doing Star Trek action figures and accessories. Nintendo Japan announced that it’s ending repair service for the original Wii, nearly 15 years after the console was released in December of 2006. The last day for Japanese gamers to submit their Wii for a repair will be March 31. The announcement is somthing of a death knell for the console, akin to Microsoft ending technical support for Windows XP or Apple not updating its software for older-model iPhones....

Good lord. Having the legal right and technological ability to monitor poorly behaved children does not make it a good idea. Parents who opt for this extreme measure are not just being assholes, but working against their best interests.
