Policy analyst Matt Bruenig has proposed a solution: scrap all three tax credits and send parents monthly checks instead. Through his thinktank the People’s Policy Project, Bruenig released the paper Now is the Time for an American Child Benefit, which argues that all parents, regardless of income, should receive monthly government payments of $374 per child, an idea modeled after successful programs in countries like Norway and Finland. Here’s the data behind these conclusions. Who Is Vaping, And How Often As of 2015, five percent of middle schoolers and about 1 in 6 high schoolers vape at least somewhat frequently, and report having used e-cigarettes at least once in the past 30 days. And although e-cigarettes have been in circulation in the United States since 2007, these rates have only really started to pick up recently. Eight years ago, in 2011, barely one percent of adolescents were vaping....

“There are two parts to committed partnerships – companionship and eroticism,” Nelson says. “Couples can be great roommates and care about each other a lot and not have the erotic aspect of their relationship. Not having sex is not an indication that they don’t love each other.” There isn’t a single reason couples stop having sex. “If you watch an animal behavior in general — lion cubs, monkeys — there’s that ongoing physical play,” explains Dr. Carla Marie Manly a clinical psychologist who’s worked extensively with elementary and middle school children. “We like to think we are so far beyond our animal instincts but we aren’t.” Manly explains that much of the rough play can be linked to the animal urge to test physical boundaries and learn cause and effect....

Some are easy enough to answer – “What’s that animal?” or “Can I drink your beer?” Others like “What is God?” and “Why do people die?” are tougher. One study found that kids between three and five years old ask an astounding average of 76 questions per hour. This rapid-fire search for information is important for kids’ learning. Their inquisitiveness gives them access to knowledge that others can share. In working on my doctorate in human development, the science of how children grow and learn, I’m studying kids’ questions and how they make sense of the responses they get....

It’s at least partly due to biology. Men usually have larger upper airways and lower hanging larynxes, which creates a large space in the back of the throat for amplifying snores. “Upper airway anatomy may contribute to the increased prevalence of snoring in men,” says Ellen Wermter, a nurse practitioner at Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine. I started showing up to work in my casual clothes for purely logistical reasons.
