And while the number of actual units recalled is high ⏤ more than 225,000 units ⏤ thankfully, there have been only a handful of injuries. Here are the ones you need to watch out for. Radio Flyer eWagon
Hazard: Faulty wiring can cause the wagon’s motor to start automatically Number Recalled: 5,000 Recall Date: March 14, 2018 Action to Take: Contact for refund Contact: radioflyer.com, 800-621-7613 Unlike most battery-powered kids’ vehicles, which only move when you press a pedal or button, Radio Flyer’s electric wagon has been reported to take off on its own ⏤ improper wiring causes the motor to start unintentionally. The wagon in question has a removable canopy, two seats with belts, four cup holders, and model number 3912/3912A. It was sold at Toys ‘R’ Us from August 2017 through January 2018, and Radio Flyer is offering a full refund. Full Recall Details
Dynacraft Ride-On Vehicles
Hazard: The gas pedal sticks, posing a crash hazard Number Recalled: 20,000 Recall Date: May 23, 2017 Action to Take: Contact for repair Contact: dynacraftwheels.com, 800-551-0032 This recall may affect three different 12V battery-operated vehicles ⏤ the Surge Camo 4X4, the Surge Quad ATV, and the Tonka Mighty Dump Truck ⏤ but the issue is the same with them all: the gas pedal sticks. And it has led to 19 crashes and reports of abrasions, cuts, and bruises. Krusher Pro Freestyle Scooters
Hazard: The steering tube can break, posing a fall hazard Number Recalled: 18,700 Recall Date: May 19, 2017 Action to Take: Contact for refund Contact: pulsescooters.com, 844-728-9957 Sold at Walmart and Westminster Trading Stores between June 2016 and May 2017, the 30-inch-tall blue Krusher Pro Freestyle has a defective steering column. And when it breaks ⏤ as has happened on 15 occasions, leading to two injuries ⏤ riders can be jettisoned. There’s no way to fix it, but customers can contact the company for a full refund. Razor RipStik
Hazard: Rear wheel locks up, posing fall hazard Number Recalled: 158,000 Recall Date: April 20, 2017 Action to Take: Contact for repair kit Contact: Razor.com, 866-467-2967 Almost 160,000 of these popular motorized caster boards ⏤ a cross between a skateboard/snowboard that can hit 10mph ⏤ were recalled at this time last year when Razor discovered the rear wheel locking up. In fact, the CPSC received 700 reports of it doing so, leading to a handful of injuries and “one loose tooth.” The fix is easy and involves a free repair kit. Full Recall Details
Xootr Adult Kick Scooters
Hazard: Steer support can break, posing a fall hazard Number Recalled: 3,000 Recall Date: April 6, 2017 Action to Take: Contact for repair kit Contact: xootr.com, 800-816-2724 Also recalled in April of last year, this 36-inch-tall adult kick scooter for urban commuters has the same problem as the Krusher Pro Freestyle: a steering support that snaps off while you’re scooting down the street. They were sold between November 2016 and January 2017 for $270, and can be repaired with replacement parts from the Pennsylvania-based company. Full Recall Details
Pulse Safe Start Transform Electric Scooter
Hazard: The axle joint can break, posing a fall hazard Number Recalled: 8,900 Recall Date: January 24, 2017 Action to Take: Contact for refund or replacement Contact: pulsescooters.com, 844-287-8711 For exactly one month in 2016, between September and October, almost 9,000 of these electric scooters for kids as young as 6-years-old rolled off the assembly line with a defective knuckle joint that connected the wheel and axle. Boosted Dual+ Electric Skateboard
Hazard: The battery can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard Number Recalled: 3,300 Recall Date: January 12, 2017 Action to Take: Contact for replacement Contact: boostedboards.com, 844-395-0070 Boosted’s $1,500 Dual+ Electric longboard, which was recalled at the beginning of last year, was plagued with the same issue as most of the hoverboards that made the news ⏤ faulty Lithium Ion batteries that overheated and caught fire. Hazard: Front wheels detach when riding, posing a fall hazard Number Recalled: 520 Recall Date: December 29, 2016 Action to Take: Contact for repair kit. Contact:, , 855-965-1704 The front wheels of these colorful kick scooters for toddlers can pop off mid scoot ⏤ the problem is that simple. It’s only happened once (injuring the child who was thrown), and it only affects 520 scooters, but if you bought one between October 2014 through January 2016 and/or received one as a hand-me-down, it’s important to contact GLOPO for the free repair kit. Peg Perego’s 850 Polaris Sportsman
Hazard: A circuit board malfunction can cause the motor to overheat and ignite, posing a fire/burn hazard Number Recalled: 3,000 Recall Date: October 27, 2016 Action to Take: Contact for replacement parts Contact: us.pegperego.com, 877-737-3464 A slightly more complicated defect than on some of the other vehicles, a faulty circuit-board relay on this battery-powered, two-person ATV causes the motor to overheat and ignite. Three vehicles have overheated and one rider was burned. Hazard: Hubcaps can detach, posing a choking hazard Number Recalled: 11,000 Recall Date: October 27, 2015 Action to Take: Contact for refund Contact: target.com, 800-440-0680 Around 11,000 of these “Snoopy Flying Ace” airplanes for kids ages 12 months to 2 years were recalled for the most basic of problems: the hubcaps pop off and pose a choking hazard.
