To be clear, this was not present in the Joss Whedon cut of 2017’s Justice League. For context, Zack Snyder stopped work on that version of the movie following the tragic death of his daughter, Autumn. With the exception of aspects of the Epilogue, everything in the Snyder Cut is, apparently, taken from the director’s original intention for the movie. This means Lois’ pregnancy test was very much put in this scene on purpose. At some point, Zack Snyder, very clearly, wanted the audience to think Lois was pregnant, which also strongly suggests that Superman is the father. Superman becoming a dad and having a kid with Lois isn’t exactly a huge revelation. In fact, the currently-airing CW series Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, is specifically about Superman raising his two sons in his hometown of Smallville. The series is by no means as epic as Justice League, but it’s also not the point. Superman & Lois is an intentionally smaller show with a lot of heart. It’s not flashy, but it is a very relatable show for parents, especially if you’re predisposed to like Superman. Brandon Routh’s version of Superman was also a father in 2006’s Superman Returns, albeit an absentee one. So, is Henry Cavill’s Kal-El about to enter into the Superman-dad club? Maybe. Maybe not. Because the notion of a sequel to Justice League is very much in question, it feels like whether or not Cavill’s Superman is a dad, or not, might never be answered. That said, Ben Affleck is supposedly coming back to play Batman in 2022’s The Flash, so maybe, at that point, he could mention, offhandedly, whether or not he’s babysitting for Lois and Clark. Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is decided to Autumn Synder, is streaming now on HBO Max.
